Van Gogh did a total of 5 large canvases with Sunflowers. They are among his most famous works. He completed them in 1888 and 1889 in Arles, sounth of France. The paintings depict Sunflowers in Vases and are done in just 3 shades of yellow and "nothing else". This was his way to show that it was possible to keep the vibrance and create beautiful images with a single color. These paintings had a special meaning to Van Gogh, or as he documented "they had gratitude". They were hung in the Yellow House, where Van Gogh had rented its east wing as a studio.
